The 4th annual 2019 Antonov Memorial Water Polo Masters Tournament took place in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan on November 22-23.
The tournament was organized by the Office of the FSB of Republic of Tatarstan and the Federation of Water Polo of the Republic with the support of the Cabinet of Ministers of Tatarstan and Kazan City Hall in memory of Lieutenant General Antonov.
Lieutenant General Antonov Alexander Valentinovich, head of the FSB Directorate of Tatarstan, tragically lost his life in a plane crash in Kazan on November 17, 2013.
Lieutenant General Antonov A.V. headed the Tatarstan FSB Directorate from 2011 to 2013.
He was the key leader of the security protocol for the 2013 XXVII Summer Universiade held in the city of Kazan. Over 10,400 university athletes from 162 countries participated in the event – the biggest ever in the history of the event. The 2013 Universiade, organized by the International University Sports Federation and by the authorities of the Republic of Tatarstan, for the first time in history also included many festivals and shows held simultaneously with the sporting events.
Alexander Antonov won in his youth the title of champion of the USSR in water polo and for a long time was part of the national team of the country.
The 2019 tournament was held for two days in the sports complex “Olympus”. The competition was attended by veteran-teams from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Minsk. The gold winner of the competition was “Synthesis Master” team from Kazan.
